Christmas in Rome
The English Concert and Choir · Trevor Pinnock
Gabrieli Consort and Players · Paul McCreesh
DVD Video.
2007, Deutsche Grammophon 0734361 DV

Acclaimed conductors Paul McCreesh and Trevor Pinnock combine forces with their superb singers and instrumentalists to perform music for Christmas by Palestrina, Josquin, Victoria, Corelli and other Renaissance and Baroque masters with Roman connections.

No venue could be more appropriate for this film than Rome's magnificent Santa Maria Maggiore, where Palestrina was music director in the 1560s: this ancient church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin contains the relics of Christ's manger.

Subtitles in : Italian/Latin/English/German/French/Spanish/Chinese

Le travail philologique et stylistique est impeccable . . . Ferveur rythmique, limpidité des plans sonores, émotions généreuse, grâce à Nancy Argenta . . . cette lecture soignée . . . est le meilleur moment d'un DVD filmé . . . Un fort honnête cadeau de Noel.

Susanne un jour: 250 anni di musica veneziana per il clavicembalo.
Timothy Roberts, harpsichord.

2004, EMCCD 7760

This new Timothy Roberts recording features works from what was, for centuries, Italy's leading centre of keyboard music : Venice. Thanks to Venice's flourishing publishing trade, Mr. Roberts was able to nourish both his passion for research and the pleasure of playing this magnificent, luscious and yet subtle repertoire. The recording includes works by Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Merulo, Adriano Banchieri, Giovanni Picchi, Bernardo Storace, Benedetto Marcello and Baldassare Galuppi. It was recorded at the Glynde Parish Church, England Sussex, in October 2003 on two harpsichords by Malcolm Rose, 2003, after Alessandro Trasuntino 1531 (Royal College of Music Museum, London).

Timothy Roberts offers up a vivacious and 'compelling' musical history lesson.
Laurence Vittes for The Gramophone (United Kingdom), May 2005.

Top-notch playing on a pair of very interesting historical recreations.

Farnaby's dreame : 20 pieces from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book
Timothy Roberts, harpsichord

2003, EMCCD 7756

British keyboardist Timothy Roberts has had for the past two decades a career as a soloist playing harpsichord, organ, piano and also clavichord. Principal keyboard player with the Gabrieli Consort and Players, Mr. Roberts has accompanied many notable singers, including, Emma Kirkby and Charles Daniels. The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book is by far the largest and most valuable treasury of English keyboard music from the 16th & 17th centuries. Farnaby’s music has a spontaneity and charm few of his contemporaries can rival.

***** 5 Stars awarded by the BBC Music Magazine*****

It's impossible to listen to Roberts's performances of the justly popular "Woodycock" or the astounding "Fantasia" FVB No.233, without acknowledging that this is one fabulous composer and one fabulous harpsichordist as well.

Jonathan Saville, San Diego Harpsichord Society
