The clarity and freshness of Arion’s interpretations have been remarked upon since its first concerts; the delicacy of its readings of well-chosen and varied works has never wavered since its foundation in 1981. Constant attention to detail has earned the orchestra, led by the enlightened artistic vision of flutist Claire Guimond, a place among the most renowned early music ensembles in North America and throughout the world.
The Orchestra offers a prestigious Montreal concert Series featuring more than twenty musicians and with the participation of internationally known guest conductors. Arion has hosted such celebrated conductors as Stefano Montanari, Jaap ter Linden, Monica Huggett, Christophe Rousset, Barthold Kuijken, Rachel Podger and Lorenzo Coppola, to name just a few. Arion has been awarded many prizes and grants and tours regularly in the United States, Mexico, Europe and Japan, as well as Quebec and Canada. Arion now holds an impressive discography of more then 30 titles distributed internationally. www arionbaroque.com

She features in radio and TV broadcasts and plays at many festivals in Europe and North America. Equally at ease on the traverso and recorder, American/Canadian Alexa Raine-Wright maintains an active Montreal-based performance career. Winner of several national and international competitions, Alexa was awarded the Devonna & Amos Gerber Grand Prize and the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra Prize at the 2016 Indianapolis International Baroque Competition. She also won First Prize at the 2015 National Flute Association’s Baroque Flute Artist Competition in Washington DC, as well as Second Prize at the 2015 Mathieu-Duguay Early Music Competition in New Brunswick. Alexa has performed with Arion Baroque Orchestra, Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, I Musici, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She is a graduate of McGill University.
At the age of eleven, Jean-Louis Blouin began to concentrate on the viola. From 1989 to 1993 he studied at the Montréal Conservatory, where he obtained a higher education diploma. He then studied with Jutta Puchhammer at the University of Montréal, where he completed a Master’s degree in interpretation.
Since 1996, Jean-Louis Blouin has been a permanent member of Les Violons du Roy and appears in several of the group’s recordings, including J.S. Bach’s Art of Fugue and Psalm 51. His interest in Baroque music and experience with early instruments has also led to performances with other specialized groups, primarily as a violist but also on the Baroque violin. Audiences have heard him perform with the ensembles such as Arion Baroque Orchestra, Tafelmusik, Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Les Boréades, La Chamaille as well as with Masques.
