Claire Guimond is a leading baroque flautist, recognised first in Canada and now well established on the world scene.
She is a founding member and artistic director of the Arion Baroque Orchestra, with which she has frequently toured in North and South America and Europe. She performs regularly with Tafelmusik, features in radio and TV broadcasts and plays at many festivals in Europe and North America, performing under such distinguished conductors as Ton Koopman, Andrew Parrot, Barthold Kuijken, Jordi Savall, Nicholas McGegan, Philippe Herreweghe and Bruno Weil.
Ms. Guimond has an extensive discography of over 30 recordings distributed internationally. As well as Arion, these feature harpsichordists Gary Cooper and Luc Beausejour, and cellist Jaap ter Linden.
Claire Guimond is a member of early-music.com, a site committed to the promotion of some of the world’s finest early music artists.
Gary Cooper is one of the foremost ambassadors of the harpsichord and fortepiano – in particular, as an interpreter of Bach’s & Mozart’s keyboard music. Also a concert and opera conductor, he performs with Arion (Montreal), the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Irish Baroque Orchestra, the new Belgian period instrument ensemble, B’Rock, and opera with English Touring Opera and at Sadler’s Wells.
Gary’s recordings include, with Rachel Podger, the complete Sonatas for Keyboard & Violin by Mozart (Channel Classics), “rightly been showered with critical acclaim and awards”. His Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier was the Sunday Times Classical Record of the Year.
Recitals across Europe, including Beethoven’s Diabelli, Scarlatti Sonatas, Bach & music from the London Piano School. He is setting up a new period instrument ensemble; and releasing a recording of Mozart’s Variations with Beethoven’s Diabelli, Haydn, Brahms and the Goldberg Variations to follow.
JAAP TER LINDEN, baroque cello
For both the cello and gamba, Jaap ter Linden is one of those who have led the development of baroque music performance in Europe.
He witnessed the very beginnings of many of the oldest and finest baroque ensembles as co-founder of Musica da Camera and principal cellist of Musica Antiqua Köln, The English Concert and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
From these auspicious beginnings, he moved further into the spotlight, either playing solo concerts and intimate ensemble repertoire with the world’s finest interpreters or at the helm of an orchestra as conductor.
